Descripction
The mausoleum of Constantina, known as the Church of Santa Costanza is located in the city of Rome (Italy).
It was built in the second quarter of the fourth century to the daughter of the Emperor Constantine near the old Basilica of Sant'Agnese fuori le Mura (Basilica of St. Agnes) because these buildings were always linked to some ordinary guy Basilica. The building is centrally planned, like all mausoleos.E
It consists of concentric circles; a peristyle today is not preserved, a central circular space covered with a dome on a drum, upon which windows open and the dome outside is not seen because it is covered by a roof, and the central core is surrounded by a ambulatory annular barrel vault, the ambulatory is available for access to the tomb easier. On the wall of the ambulatory, square or semicircular niches open, it is a very thick wall to support the weight. The body is supported by double columns arranged radially, and has a narthex access that terminates in two semicircular exedra. It is part of the inventory of early Christian religious buildings.
